In this book, she is needlessly evil for no reason. She had her own motives, but obviously was worried about rapunzels safety at the end of the day, if not so she could feel better about herself. Before, mother gothel was an abusive and vain mother figure to Rapunzel. Every character is changed to be one dimensional for this story. I’m not sure how the writers got it wrong with such a fun idea, and all the characters already fleshed out in the movie, but they did. If you like the movie Tangled, youll hate this book. Had to stop reading halfway through from how bad it is.
